Effective VC Boards, the unique board training you don't get elsewhere!

You have invested in a company, and you have been appointed one of their board members. Congratulations! But are you now looking at the company as investor or as a board member? What if these roles interfere with each other?

In this training you will learn how to be an effective board member in a Venture Capital (VC) environment. Specifically, we take a closer look at consciously dealing with shareholder and supervisory board interests: on the one hand, shareholders strive for value creation, while board members collectively have to help management to achieve set goals and strive for what is best for the company. In this interactive session you will work on a case, that will challenge you on potential conflicts that can arise and how to deal with those.

The two training days are 6 weeks apart and participants are asked to sit in two different board meetings, to reflect on the learnings and to bring into the 2nd day of the training.

Learning objectives

You will learn:

  • What roles and responsibilities you have as board member
  • What the main challenges are of a board in a startup, scaleup and from startup to scaleup
  • What effective behavior looks like in a VC board setting
  • How to deal with and flag unexpected downturns from the business
  • Who your stakeholders are and how to listen to them
  • How to deal with conflicting interests

Additional learning objectives can be brought in by you as participant.

What did previous participants say?

  • “Great training! Nice to take a step back and reflect on current board dynamics and with tangible solutions/guidelines from the training. Great opportunity to further improve the board meetings”
  • “Appreciate the classical approach and challenging us to express exact wording how you would phrase things in a real board meeting. Helped in realizing apart from all the different perspectives around the table, it remains a people play.”
  • “Sharing the wealth of knowledge that all the speakers have in this training is what I experienced as very valuable.”

For whom?
VC investors that are non-executive board members or have observer seats at the board of their portfolio companies. Can be either with some experience, relatively new or prospective board members (previous participants with some experience have also rated this course to be very helpful for them).
