The revised European Long-Term Investment Fund (ELTIF) regulation intends to revolutionize the landscape for fund managers, offering a gateway to market illiquid investment strategies, for instance private equity or venture capital, directly to retail investors across the EU/EEA.
 
While ELTIFs have been available since 2015, the initial framework was seen as restrictive, limiting their broader adoption. However, with the launch of ELTIF 2.0, the European Commission has introduced significant enhancements to make these funds more accessible and attractive. Notably, the amended Solvency II regime offers favorable capital treatment for ELTIFs, allowing insurers to benefit from reduced capital charges and simplified regulatory requirements, enhancing their appeal as a low-risk investment option.
