The role of a VC board member: the challenge of diversified interest
This is a unique board training you won't get elsewhere! Want to know why? Read a short interview with one of our speakers, Patrick Polak, here.
In this training you will learn how to build an effective board. Specifically, we take a closer look at consciously dealing with shareholder and supervisory board interests: on the one hand, shareholders strive for value creation, while board members collectively have to help management to achieve set goals and strive for what is best for the company. In this training you will work on the topics and the challenges and possible conflicts from this dual role on the basis of a case.
Trainers:
Patrick Polak – co-founder and managing partner of Newion Partners
Maaike Strack van Schijndel – partner BusinessBuddy
Mercedes Tuin – investment manager Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij
Silva Dezelan - Head of Impact and ESG at Forbion
Nathalie van Woerkom – Partner, attorney at AKD
Dorus Olgers – Principal at Newion Partners
You will learn from a VC perspective:
• What the challenges are of startups and scaleups
• Per challenge, what you can do, from what role, how, what you should take into account and what can go wrong
• How a board is composed
• The formal responsibilities of a board member
• Who the stakeholders are and what drives them
• How to manage diverse or competing interests
• Shaping you role in the board
Any other specific learning objectives that you might have will be taken into account.
